Ingredients
Pastry
- Frozen Puff Pastry Sheets (thawed according to package instructions)
Filling
- Cooked Bacon, finely chopped (about 6 slices)
- Cheddar Cheese, shredded (1 cup)
- Cream Cheese, softened (4 oz)
- Green Onions, diced (2 tablespoons)
Finishing
- Egg Wash (1 beaten egg mixed with 1 tablespoon water)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: Finely chop the cooked bacon, shred the cheddar cheese, and dice the green onions. In a mixing bowl, combine these ingredients with the softened cream cheese. Mix thoroughly until the filling is creamy and evenly blended.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry: Thaw the puff pastry sheets following the package instructions. On a lightly floured surface, gently roll out the pastry sheets to smooth creases and improve pliability for cutting.
- Assemble the Puffs: Cut the puff pastry into approximately 3×3 inch squares. Place a spoonful of the prepared bacon cheese filling into the center of each square. Fold the pastry over into a triangle or rectangle shape, then press the edges firmly with a fork to seal the filling inside securely.
- Apply Egg Wash: Generously brush each puff with the beaten egg wash to help develop a glossy, golden crust during baking.
- Bake to Perfection: Arrange the prepared puffs on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until the puffs are risen and golden brown. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving to allow the filling to set slightly.
Notes
- Use cold, slightly chilled cream cheese to keep the filling firm and prevent it from becoming too runny.
- Cook bacon until extra crispy for the best texture and flavor contrast.
- Do not overfill the pastry squares to avoid leaks during baking and ensure neat puffs.
- Seal edges well by pressing firmly and crimping with a fork to keep filling contained.
- Serve the puffs warm for the best experience, when the cheese is melty and the pastry flaky.
