Chicken Cheesesteak Skillet

Chicken Cheesesteak Skillet

The Chicken Cheesesteak Skillet is a quick, comforting one-pan meal featuring tender sliced chicken, sautéed bell peppers and onions, and melted provolone or mozzarella cheese. Ready in under 30 minutes, it’s perfect for busy weeknights and offers the rich, satisfying flavors of a classic cheesesteak without the fuss.

  • Total Time: 25-30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Proteins

  • 1 lb chicken breasts or thighs, thinly sliced

Vegetables

  • 12 bell peppers, thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 23 garlic cloves, minced

Dairy

  • 68 oz provolone or mozzarella cheese, sliced or shredded

Fats & Oils

  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter

Seasonings

  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp smoked paprika or oregano

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Thinly slice the chicken breasts or thighs into bite-sized strips. Cut the bell peppers and onions into thin strips to ensure even cooking and a tender texture by the time the chicken is done.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, cooking until softened and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Add minced garlic towards the end to release its aroma without burning.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Push the veggies to the side of the skillet and increase heat to medium-high. Add the sliced chicken pieces, seasoning with salt, pepper, and your choice of spices. Cook until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through, roughly 6-8 minutes.
  4. Combine and Melt Cheese: Mix the cooked chicken and veggies together in the skillet. Lower the heat and layer slices of provolone or shredded mozzarella on top. Cover the skillet and let the cheese melt for about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Once the cheese is melted and bubbly, remove from heat. Serve your Chicken Cheesesteak Skillet directly from the pan or spoon it over toasted bread or rice for a heartier meal.

Notes

  • Use thin slices of chicken for quick, even cooking and tender bites.
  • Don’t rush sautéing the vegetables to develop sweet, caramelized flavors.
  • Choose melting cheese like provolone or mozzarella for the best gooey texture.
  • Cover the skillet when melting the cheese to prevent drying out the dish.
  • Serve immediately for the best cheesy, fresh experience.
