Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds or flaxseeds
- Pinch of salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup milk or milk alternative (almond, oat, dairy, etc.)
- 2 tablespoons Greek yogurt (optional, substitute with coconut or cashew-based yogurt for vegan)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 to 2 teaspoons sweetener (honey, maple syrup, or sugar substitute, adjust to taste)
Fruit
- 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, chopped (plus a few slices reserved for topping)
Instructions
- Combine the Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl or jar, add the rolled oats, cocoa powder, chia seeds (or flaxseeds), and a pinch of salt. Stir well to ensure the cocoa powder is evenly distributed among the oats.
- Add the Wet Ingredients: Pour in your choice of milk, then add the Greek yogurt if using. Next, add vanilla extract and your preferred sweetener. Mix everything until fully combined and creamy.
- Mix in Strawberries: Gently fold in the chopped fresh strawberries, reserving a few pieces to use as a topping later. This helps infuse the oats with strawberry flavor while keeping some fruit fresh on top.
- Refrigerate Overnight: Seal the container with a lid and place it in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours or overnight. This soaking time allows the oats to absorb the flavors and soften to the desired creamy texture.
- Serve and Enjoy: In the morning, stir the oats to mix any settled ingredients. Add the reserved strawberries or any additional toppings you like (such as granola or nuts) and enjoy directly from the jar or a bowl.
Notes
- Use fresh strawberries for the best flavor and texture; frozen berries may make the oats slightly watery.
- Adjust the sweetness gradually and taste before finalizing, as strawberry sweetness can vary.
- Rolled oats are preferred for texture; avoid instant oats which tend to get too mushy.
- Chia seeds help create a thicker, pudding-like consistency.
- Opt for unsweetened cocoa powder for better control over sugar and a richer chocolate flavor.
