Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 can (14-15 oz) canned salmon, drained and flaked
- 1 cup bread crumbs (regular or gluten-free)
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or mustard
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Oil for frying (neutral oil like vegetable or canola)
Instructions
- Prepare the Salmon: Drain the canned salmon thoroughly and remove any large bones or skin if desired. Flake the salmon gently with a fork to create a chunky but manageable texture for mixing.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flaked salmon, bread crumbs, finely diced onion, egg, mayonnaise or mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir just until everything is combined, ensuring the mixture is sticky enough to hold shape without being overly wet.
- Shape the Patties: Divide the mixture into 4 to 6 equal portions. Form each portion into a round, flat patty about half an inch thick and place them on a plate or tray to keep uniform size.
- Cook the Patties: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully place patties into the hot oil and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan for even cooking.
- Drain and Serve: Remove cooked patties from the pan and place on paper towel-lined plates to absorb excess oil. Serve warm with preferred sides or garnishes.
Notes
- Do not overmix the ingredients to keep patties tender.
- Chill patties in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes before frying to help them hold their shape better.
- Maintain medium heat during frying to avoid burning or sogginess.
- Pat dry any excess moisture from salmon or onion to prevent soggy patties.
- Use fresh bread crumbs for better texture and crispiness.
