Instructions
- Prepare the Chickpeas: Drain and rinse the canned chickpeas thoroughly to remove excess sodium and starch. Pat them completely dry using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to ensure they roast crispy.
- Season the Chickpeas: In a mixing bowl, toss the dried chickpeas with olive oil to coat evenly. Add your chosen spices and salt, stirring well so each chickpea is lightly covered with seasoning.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Spread the chickpeas in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Ensure there is space between them to allow even heat circulation.
- Roast to Perfection: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Roast the chickpeas for 25 to 30 minutes, shaking or stirring halfway through to promote even browning. Watch carefully to prevent burning and achieve a golden-brown, crunchy texture.
- Cool and Enjoy: Remove the chickpeas from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet. Cooling helps them firm up, locking in the crispiness for a perfect crunchy snack.
Notes
- Dry chickpeas thoroughly before roasting to avoid steaming and sogginess.
- Use high heat (400°F/200°C) to achieve the best crispiness.
- Shake or stir the chickpeas halfway through roasting for uniform cooking.
- Do not overcrowd the baking sheet; space allows proper roasting instead of steaming.
- Experiment with different spices to customize flavor to your liking.
- Store cooled chickpeas in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
- Freeze roasted chickpeas in sealed containers for longer storage; re-crisp in the oven before serving.
- Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5–10 minutes to restore crunch, avoid microwaving.
