Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- Fresh Jalapeños (quantity to taste, seeds removed for less heat or kept for extra spice)
- 8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
- 2 sheets Puff Pastry, thawed
- 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1/4 cup Bacon Bits (optional)
- 1 Egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: Finely chop the jalapeños and mix them with softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, garlic powder, and optional bacon bits in a bowl until well combined and creamy.
- Roll Out the Puff Pastry: Lightly flour your work surface and unfold the puff pastry sheets. Roll them out slightly to smooth seams and prepare them for filling.
- Spread the Filling: Evenly spread the cheese and jalapeño mixture over the puff pastry sheet, leaving about a half inch border around the edges.
- Cut and Twist: Cut the pastry into strips approximately one inch wide. Carefully twist each strip several times to form the characteristic “twist” shape.
- Apply Egg Wash and Bake: Brush each twist with a beaten egg to achieve a golden, glossy finish and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes or until golden and puffed.
Notes
- Use fresh jalapeños for the best flavor and ideal heat level.
- Don’t overfill the pastry to prevent leaks and ensure even baking.
- Freeze puff pastry briefly before cutting and twisting to avoid tearing.
- Watch baking time carefully to keep the twists golden and melty without drying out.
- Serve warm for the best texture and flavor experience.
