Main Ingredients
- 12 Hawaiian Dinner Rolls
- 6–8 slices of American cheese, cheddar, or preferred melting cheese
- 4 tablespoons softened butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder or garlic seasoning
Optional Add-ins
- 6 slices thinly sliced ham or cooked bacon
- 1 teaspoon fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme (optional for herbed butter)
- Sriracha or red pepper flakes (for a spicy kick)
- Grilled vegetables such as mushrooms or peppers (for vegetarian version)
Instructions
- Prepare the Rolls: Slice the Hawaiian dinner rolls horizontally into top and bottom halves, keeping them attached as one batch for easy handling.
- Butter and Season: Spread a generous layer of softened butter on the outside of both the top and bottom halves. Evenly sprinkle garlic powder or seasoning over the buttered surfaces.
- Assemble the Cheese Layer: Place cheese slices evenly over the bottom half of the rolls. If using optional add-ins like ham, bacon, or herbs, layer them on top of the cheese now.
- Close and Press: Place the top half of the rolls back onto the cheese-covered bottom half, pressing gently to secure the layers together.
- Bake to Perfection: Cover the assembled rolls with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 15 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes until the tops are golden and crispy.
- Slice and Serve: Once baked, carefully slice between each roll to separate the mini sandwiches. Serve warm and enjoy the melty, buttery deliciousness.
Notes
- Use softened butter at room temperature for even spreading and flavor distribution.
- Choose high-quality cheeses for better melt and richer taste.
- Cover with foil during baking to prevent burning and ensure cheese melts perfectly.
- Use a sharp knife to slice the rolls to maintain their shape.
- Serve immediately after baking for best texture and flavor.
