  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Seasoning

  • 1 lb tender steak cubes (sirloin or ribeye), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Sticky Glaze

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, freshly minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated

Cooking Oil

  • 12 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil

Garnishes and Optional Spices

  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • Chili flakes (optional, to taste)
  • Toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Steak: Start with tender steak cut into bite-sized cubes. Pat them dry thoroughly to ensure a good sear. Lightly season with salt and black pepper to enhance the natural beef flavors.
  2. Make the Sticky Glaze: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce (or tamari), honey or brown sugar, freshly minced garlic, and grated ginger until smooth and well combined.
  3. Sear the Steak: Heat olive or sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add steak cubes in a single layer without overcrowding. Cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes to develop a caramelized crust, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes until browned on all sides.
  4. Add the Glaze: Pour the prepared sweet and sticky sauce over the seared steak bites in the pan. Stir well to coat all pieces evenly. Allow the glaze to thicken and cling to the meat as it cooks for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. Finish and Garnish: Remove the pan from heat. Sprinkle sliced green onions and optional chili flakes or toasted sesame seeds on top. Serve immediately to enjoy the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Pat the steak dry to ensure a beautiful sear and avoid steaming.
  • Use high heat to let the glaze caramelize perfectly and create the sticky coating.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if needed for even browning.
  • Let steak bites rest a few minutes after cooking to lock in juices.
  • Adjust sweetness by tasting the glaze and adding more honey or sugar if desired.
