Steak Pinwheels

Steak Pinwheels

Steak Pinwheels are a quick and flavorful dish featuring tender, thinly sliced steak rolled with fresh spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, cream cheese, and melted mozzarella or provolone. These bite-sized pinwheels bake to a golden perfection and make a versatile appetizer, main dish, or party snack that’s easy to prepare in under 30 minutes.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Seasonings

  • 8 oz thinly sliced flank or sirloin steak
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for searing and brushing)

Fillings

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup fresh spinach leaves
  • 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (parsley or basil), chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak: Season the thinly sliced steak generously with salt, black pepper, and minced garlic. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Quickly sear the steak slices for 1-2 minutes per side until just cooked through. Remove from heat and let rest.
  2. Assemble the Pinwheels: Lay steak slices flat on a clean surface. Spread a thin layer of softened cream cheese on each. Layer fresh spinach leaves, chopped sun-dried tomatoes, shredded mozzarella, and sprinkle with chopped fresh herbs. Leave a small border around edges for easier rolling.
  3. Roll and Secure: Carefully roll each steak slice tightly from one end to the other, forming a pinwheel shape. Secure with toothpicks or kitchen twine as needed to hold the shape during cooking.
  4. Bake Until Perfect: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place pinwheels on a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush lightly with olive oil. Bake for 12-15 minutes until cheese melts and edges turn golden brown. Remove and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use thin steak slices for easy rolling and tender results.
  • Don’t overfill to prevent bursting during baking.
  • Chill rolled pinwheels briefly before slicing to hold shape.
  • Brush with olive oil or butter before baking for a golden crust.
  • Add delicate fresh herbs after baking to maintain bright flavor and color.
