Ingredients
Scale
Steak and Seasonings
- 8 oz thinly sliced flank or sirloin steak
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for searing and brushing)
Fillings
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup fresh spinach leaves
- 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (parsley or basil), chopped
Instructions
- Prepare the Steak: Season the thinly sliced steak generously with salt, black pepper, and minced garlic. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Quickly sear the steak slices for 1-2 minutes per side until just cooked through. Remove from heat and let rest.
- Assemble the Pinwheels: Lay steak slices flat on a clean surface. Spread a thin layer of softened cream cheese on each. Layer fresh spinach leaves, chopped sun-dried tomatoes, shredded mozzarella, and sprinkle with chopped fresh herbs. Leave a small border around edges for easier rolling.
- Roll and Secure: Carefully roll each steak slice tightly from one end to the other, forming a pinwheel shape. Secure with toothpicks or kitchen twine as needed to hold the shape during cooking.
- Bake Until Perfect: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place pinwheels on a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush lightly with olive oil. Bake for 12-15 minutes until cheese melts and edges turn golden brown. Remove and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Use thin steak slices for easy rolling and tender results.
- Don’t overfill to prevent bursting during baking.
- Chill rolled pinwheels briefly before slicing to hold shape.
- Brush with olive oil or butter before baking for a golden crust.
- Add delicate fresh herbs after baking to maintain bright flavor and color.
